You can't truly understand Austin without feeling the rhythm of its neighborhood music scenes. While downtown venues get plenty of spotlight, the heart of the city's musical soul beats proudly in East Austin at the Oswaldo A.B. Cantu Pan American Recreation Center.

Opened in 1942 as Austin's first Latin American recreation center, this historic hub became a sanctuary for culture, connection, and community. In 1958, the outdoor Hillside Theater was completed right beside the center, quickly becoming home to what is now celebrated as the longest running outdoor concert series in Austin. For generations, families have gathered on the grassy slope under the stars to enjoy music, dance, and community events.

It is a place where neighbors connect, local legends play, and the true, inclusive spirit of the Live Music Capital of the World shines brightest. When you hear the music drifting through the warm evening air here, you are listening to the very heartbeat of Austin's living history.
