Where Sunday sermons once echoed, local artists and co-workers now find their daily inspiration inside a beautifully restored historic church. Step inside 2403 East 16th Street in East Austin, and you will find yourself inside The Cathedral. Opened in October 2019 by founder Monica Ceniceros, this stunning space was originally the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Ceniceros carefully renovated the building to preserve its historical integrity, transforming it into a vibrant art gallery, co-working space, and event venue. The inspiration for the space grew out of her work with atxGALS, an all-women and nonbinary artist collective created to increase exposure for women and nonbinary artists. As the collective grew, Ceniceros saw a clear need for a dedicated place where local creatives could gather and thrive.
Today, this beautifully refurbished sanctuary continues to serve a sacred purpose, keeping the diverse, creative soul of Austin burning bright.
