Does Austin's skyline feature a giant hidden owl watching over the city? If you look up at the Frost Bank Tower, you might just see a massive, nocturnal predator staring back at you. Built in 2003, this 33-story, 515-foot-tall skyscraper was the first high-rise constructed in the United States after 9/11.
Designed by Duda Paine Architects, it features a limestone base, a blue glass curtain wall, and a striking, multi-layered folded-glass crown. But to locals, that distinctive crown looks like something else entirely. The Austin Chronicle even praised the tower's "owl face looking down over the city," cementing a legendary local comparison.
Whether the architects intended it or not, this iconic landmark has become Austin's giant, silent sentinel, keeping watch over the streets below as you walk.
