Imagine a building that has shifted its soul from sacred to secular. The Marigny Opera House began its life in 1853 as a German Catholic Church, designed by architect Theodore Giraud for the people of Faubourg Marigny. For over a century, it served the faithful, until the Archdiocese closed it in 1997.
But the building didn't stay silent for long. In 2011, it was renovated and reopened as a non-denominational neighborhood church of the arts. By 2014, it became the home of the Marigny Opera Ballet, a resident contemporary dance company.
Today, the echoes of hymns have been replaced by the grace of ballet and opera, proving that art can be its own kind of worship.
