The Beauregard-Keyes House is a stunning example of a raised cottage, but for twenty years, it was almost a ruin. Between 1926 and 1945, the home deteriorated badly, losing the luster of its 1826 origins. It took a determined vision to bring it back.

Starting in 1948, author Frances Parkinson Keyes began a massive restoration, transforming the crumbling structure into a Victorian-style museum. She didn't just fix the walls; she lived there, wrote her books there, and filled the rooms with the collections of a bygone era. Now, as the only example of its type open to the public, the house stands as a testament to the idea that no matter how far a building falls into decay, it can always be brought back to life with enough passion.
