Tucked away on Pirates Alley is a bookstore that feels more like a sanctuary than a shop. Faulkner House Books opened in 1990, specifically on September twenty-fifth, which was William Faulkner's birthday. The shop is located in a townhouse built in 1837, the very place where Faulkner lived during the nineteen-twenties and completed his first novel, Soldiers' Pay.

Today, the ground floor where the author once lived is filled with fine literature and rare editions, with a special focus on books by and about Faulkner himself. It's a national literary landmark that manages to capture the early New Orleans literary life of one of America's greatest writers. It's the perfect spot to pick up a rare find while stepping back into the nineteen-twenties.
