Tucked away at 624 Pirates Alley is a townhouse built in 1837 that serves as a sanctuary for book lovers. Faulkner House Books specializes in fine literature and rare editions, but its real draw is its history. In the 1920s, this building was home to William Faulkner, who completed his first novel, Soldiers' Pay, while living here.

The shop, which opened on Faulkner's birthday in 1990, occupies the very ground-floor room where the author lived. Today, it is declared a national literary landmark, sitting just off Jackson Square. For those who love the intersection of history and art, it is a quiet, scholarly escape from the bustle of the French Quarter.
