At 1515 Pauger Street stands a typical Creole cottage with a remarkable story. This was the home of Rosette Rochon, a wealthy free woman of color born in 1760. Rosette wasn't just a resident; she was a prominent developer and early investor in the Faubourg Marigny, purchasing land from Bernard de Marigny in 1806.

She lived a long, influential life, passing away at age 103 in 1863 and leaving behind an estate valued at 100,000 dollars. Today, the house serves as a museum dedicated to her memory. It's a place to discover the history of the gens de couleur libres and the women who helped shape the early architecture and economy of the city.
