What to know

Little Island is an artificial island and public park located at Pier 55 in Hudson River Park, just off Manhattan's west coast. Conceived in 2013 and designed by Heatherwick Studio, the park opened to the public on May 21, 2021. It was primarily funded by the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation and occupies the site of the remnants of Pier 54, which was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. Across 2.4 acres of green space, the park features a lush, seasonal landscape with rolling hills, walking paths, and open lawns. Visitors can explore the variety of terrains and enjoy dazzling views of New York City. The design creates a unique urban oasis that provides a sanctuary for nature and art on the river. As a premier destination for outdoor performance, the park includes a 687-seat amphitheater known as The Amph, and a more intimate stage called The Glade overlooking the water. An open plaza also hosts programming for all ages. For the 2025 season, the park expects over 300 artists to bring to life 100 performances of music, theater, opera, and dance, with tickets priced at $25. Practical amenities include two concession stands providing coffee, baked goods, salads, and sandwiches made fresh with local ingredients. The entire park is ADA compliant, ensuring accessibility for all visitors. The park is connected to the rest of Hudson River Park by footbridges at 13th and 14th Streets.
