The park is particularly famous for its social scene, featuring both on-leash and off-leash dog areas. Along Scott Street, visitors can find a meditation labyrinth completed in 2007, which was built by the Friends of Duboce Park. This nonprofit organization was established in 1997 by local neighbors to maintain and improve the space. The history of the site is deeply tied to the city's development. Originally, an 1861 engineer's map labeled the area as a hospital site, and it was designated as a public reservation under the Van Ness Ordinance. Today, the surrounding district features exuberant Victorian-era houses and flats developed by builder Fernando Nelson, many of which were constructed on land originally intended for public parkland.
