Healing often requires remembering the things the world tried to erase. In the heart of the Castro, at the intersection of Market and 17th Streets, lies the Pink Triangle Park and Memorial. Dedicated on December 10, 2001, it is the first LGBTQ+ Holocaust memorial in the United States.

The park was founded to honor those who suffered under Nazi persecution in the 1930s and 40s, transforming a small urban space into a site of global remembrance. With its fifteen granite pylons and an interactive gesture involving a single stone, the memorial recovers the lost stories of victims who were silenced for decades. It serves as a permanent reminder that recovery isn't just about rebuilding structures, but about restoring the dignity of the forgotten.
