If you want to find where San Francisco truly began, you have to head to the Presidio. Army. For two hundred and nineteen years, it remained a military post, the oldest continuously used one in the nation. It wasn't until 1994 that it was transferred to the National Park Service, turning a site of defense into a place of public exploration.
