At the eastern end of Golden Gate Park, you'll find a stunning Victorian wood-and-glass structure: the Conservatory of Flowers. Completed in 1879, it is the oldest building in the entire park and one of the first municipal conservatories in the United States. Inside, it houses about 1,700 species of aquatic and tropical plants, creating a lush escape from the city fog.
It's a designated San Francisco landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you're visiting on the first Tuesday of every month, admission is free. It's a place where nature and 19th-century architecture blend perfectly, keeping a tropical paradise alive in the heart of the city.
