In the heart of the Castro District, at the intersection of Market and 17th Streets, lies the Pink Triangle Park and Memorial. Dedicated on December 10, 2001, it is the first LGBTQ+ Holocaust memorial in the United States. The site is designed to honor the homosexual victims of Nazi persecution during the 1930s and 1940s.

The memorial features 15 granite pylons and includes a touching, interactive gesture where visitors can place a single stone to remember those lost. It is a quiet, powerful space of reflection tucked right into one of the city's most vibrant and energetic neighborhoods.
