Where the Presidio meets the Pacific Ocean, there is a rugged stretch of coastline known as the Batteries to Bluffs Trail. This point-seven-mile walk is a dramatic descent from coastal bluffs down to the shore. As you trek, you'll encounter historic gun batteries, including Battery Chamberlin, which is unique because it still contains a cannon.

Along the way, you can spot native coastal plants, wildlife, and seeps and springs, all while looking out at the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a raw, natural escape that connects the city's military history with the wild edge of the ocean.
