Tucked away in the eastern end of Golden Gate Park is a Victorian wood-and-glass sanctuary. The Conservatory of Flowers, completed in 1879, is the oldest building in the park and the oldest remaining municipal wooden conservatory in the country. Inside this architectural gem, the city's climate disappears, replaced by a humid paradise housing about seventeen hundred species of aquatic and tropical plants.
It's a carefully curated piece of the wild, bringing exotic flora from across the globe into the heart of San Francisco. As you walk past the glass panes, you're looking at a botanical collection that has survived for over a century, offering a lush, green respite from the urban bustle outside.
