What to know

Golden Gardens Park is a premier destination in the Ballard neighborhood, situated on the shores of Puget Sound. Developed in 1907 by Harry W. Treat as a private streetcar destination, the site was eventually acquired by the City of Seattle in 1923. Today, the park spans 87.8 acres of diverse terrain, including tidelands, dunes, and native forest trails. Visitors can explore a landscape shaped by both nature and history. The park features two wetlands with renovated lagoons and a short loop trail. Much of the infrastructure, including various staircases, sediment catch basins, and specific hiking trails, was constructed during the mid-1930s as part of a WPA project. Central to the park's charm is the historic Golden Gardens Bathhouse, another 1930s structure that now serves as an event rental venue. In front of this building, the park maintains four reservable sand volleyball courts. For those seeking relaxation, the beach offers seasonal fire pits available on a first-come, first-served basis. Beyond the beach, the park provides a variety of recreational spaces. These include a playground, picnic shelters, and a dedicated dog off-leash area located in the upper northern portion of the grounds. The high bluffs offer some of the most extraordinary views of the Olympic Mountains in the city.
