Seattle Center is an active civic, arts, and family gathering place located in the core of the Seattle region. The campus spans 74 acres of open and activated space, attracting millions of visitors each year for world-class performing arts, sports, and lively civic celebrations. It serves as a major venue for cultural, educational, and entertainment programming, hosting thousands of events and programs annually. The site originated as a legacy of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, evolving over the decades into the region's top gathering place. It is now home to a collection of more than 30 cultural, educational, and entertainment organizations that call the campus home. This inclusive destination is designed to delight and inspire the human spirit, acting as the heart and soul of the city. Historically, the land encompassed by the current Seattle Center was part of a 320-acre donation claim filed in 1853 by David Denny and Louisa Boren Denny. The Denny family was central to the city's earliest Euro-American settlement narrative, arriving at Alki in late 1851 and moving to the east side of Elliott Bay in spring 1852. Visitors can experience a variety of programming, including the Festál festivals. In 2026, the center is hosting 25 free Festál festivals in person from February to November, providing a diverse range of cultural experiences for the community to come together.
