In 1975, a group of Asian American activists looked at a piece of steep, undeveloped land and saw a possibility. Through negotiations with business owner Danny Woo, they converted the property into a community garden. Located in the heart of the Chinatown-International District, the Danny Woo International District Community Garden became a space for growth and gathering.

After Danny Woo passed away, the garden was renamed in his honor to recognize his contribution. It stands as a testament to the power of community activism and the determination of the neighborhood to maintain green, shared spaces amidst the urban bustle. To this day, it remains a free, public oasis where the roots of the community run deep.
