Tucked into the Chinatown-International District is a lush escape called the Danny Woo Community Garden. It wasn't created by a city planner, but by Asian American activists in 1975. They negotiated with a local business owner named Danny Woo to convert his steep, undeveloped land into a place for the community to grow.
After Danny Woo passed away, the garden was renamed in his honor. For decades, it has served as a green sanctuary amidst the urban bustle, proving that a bit of persistence and a shared vision can turn a hillside into a living legacy for the entire neighborhood.
