If you want to see the architectural DNA of Waco, look no further than Austin Avenue. Conceived around 1849 or 1850, this corridor has been the commercial spine of the city for nearly a century and a half. It's a living gallery of architectural diversity, where historic homes cluster southwest of 18th Street and modern designs blend with old-world charm.

In fact, more than twenty-five homes here were selected as architecturally significant local preservation properties. While the 1953 tornado caused major damage, the long rebuilding period that followed created a layered look that tells the story of the city's resilience. Just look around—every building here has a different story to tell.
