The Waco Suspension Bridge is more than just a crossing; it's a feat of nineteenth-century engineering. Created to solve the dangerous and time-consuming task of crossing the Brazos River by ferry, this single-span suspension bridge was once the longest of its kind west of the Mississippi. It played a crucial role in the development of Waco, helping transport numerous head of cattle during the great drives.
