The McCulloch House didn't start as the grand estate you see today. Back in 1866, it was just a simple, two-room cabin built by Dr. Josiah H.

Caldwell for his family. But in 1870, Champe Carter McCulloch—a prominent merchant and long-time mayor—and his wife purchased the home and began a major expansion. They transformed the modest cabin into the Greek Revival style structure we see now, filling it with family heirlooms and early Texas art.

It's a wonderful glimpse into how a home grows alongside the success of its owners, evolving from a frontier shelter into a symbol of city prestige. Take a look at those columns and imagine the house expanding room by room.
