Architecture often tells a story of growth. Take the McCulloch House. It started simply, as a modest two-room cabin built in 1866 by Dr.

Josiah H. Caldwell for his family. But as the city grew and the owners changed, so did the house.

In 1870, Champe Carter McCulloch, a prominent merchant and long-time mayor, purchased the home and expanded it. He transformed the simple cabin into the elegant Greek Revival style structure we see today. It's a fascinating transition from a frontier-style dwelling to a sophisticated city residence, reflecting the rising status of the people who lived there and the the way Waco was evolving from a settlement into a city.
