Waco, Texas story
Vaudeville and Seals
The eclectic performance history of the Waco Hippodrome Theatre.
Read the story
Step back into the early 1900s at the Waco Hippodrome Theatre. This intimate 400-seat landmark on Austin Avenue has seen it all. It began as a vaudeville theatre, hosting everything from Broadway-style acts and silent films to traveling performers.
Believe it or not, it even hosted live performing seals! Today, the Hippodrome has traded the seals for live music, theater, and classic movies, but that same spirit of eclectic entertainment lives on. It's a place where the community still gathers for a great show, keeping a century of performance culture alive in the heart of downtown.
