The venue began as a pop-up bar in a kitchen off 14th St NW and operated as a temporary installation for four years before owner Chris Hassaan Francke opened the permanent location in the Adams Morgan district in 2018. As a two-story establishment, the bar focuses on high-end craft cocktails and independent spirits that celebrate the vibrant flavors of Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and beyond. The drink program features a mix of seasonal rotations and permanent house signatures, such as the Janissary Corps, which combines gin, pistachio, lemon, and a secret 'silky magic' ingredient. Other notable offerings include the Saz'iraq, Lebanese No. 1, and a legendary Mint Lemonade. Beyond the drinks, the venue is designed as a safe space for people to be themselves. Its name is a reference to the International Zone in Baghdad, intended to signal a sanctuary for all communities.
