On Capitol Hill, there's a commercial corridor known as Barracks Row. It's often called the oldest commercial district in Washington, and for good reason. Its growth was driven by its proximity to the Washington Navy Yard and the Marine Barracks, which was established in 1801 and is known as the oldest post in the Corps.
While the area faced a decline after World War II and the riots of 1968, it's been revitalized over the last twenty years into a premier culinary and entertainment destination. Today, it's a vibrant stretch of 8th Street SE where the city's military roots meet its modern appetite for great food.
