Even a world-class museum needs a recovery period. The National Museum of Women in the Arts was established in 1981 to champion women creators, but by 2021, the space needed to evolve to match its growing collection of over six thousand works. The museum closed its doors for a transformative renovation, a sixty-six million dollar project designed to modernize the experience for visitors and artists alike.

For two years, the galleries were silent as the building was overhauled. When it finally reopened on October 21, 2023, it wasn't just a reopening—it was a rebirth. By investing in its infrastructure, the museum ensured it could continue its mission of championing women's voices for the next generation of art lovers.
